The work was inspired by the Mexican celebration Dia de Los Muertos. A Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration
The artwork was created using imagery from paintings of mine combined with borrowed images and photos from my travels to Oaxaca, Mexico.

This series of paintings were created during the stay at home orders and the social distancing that was put in place during the Covid-19 pandemic. I found solace in the image of the bird, with the hope that we will all be set free and fly again.
I ended the series when the vaccine was developed and available for adults in December of 2021.

religious icons my entire painting career. I am not religious but I'm very intrigued by the representation of the Virgin Mary.
